Funny this is popping up now. I've been on an Austen kick lately, and this particular heroine is my very favorite.

I am Elizabeth Bennet!

Inside the room of my soul? Or something. Other than the painfully bad grammar that is making me want to gouge my eyes out with a spork, it's pretty accurate.

Please leave a one-word comment that you think best describes me -- it can only be one word long. Then copy and paste this in your journal so that I may leave a word about you.

I took a little break from intensive school planning to do the lover style and classic leading lady memes. Fun!

However, as has been discussed a lot today, I am horrified at New Orleans' plight right now. I fell utterly in love with the city during the F2F this past spring, and I can't imagine this country without that charming and wonderfully un-American place. Please please let this only be the near miss that causes NOLA to finally shore up their defenses rather than the catastrophe they're predicting...

Pick your favorite poem and reproduce it or link to it.

[somewhere i have never travelled] ee cummings

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously) her first rose

or if your wish be to close me,i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

a) Why do you like this poem?
The first time I read this poem, it sang to me. I have no better way to explain it except to say that it somehow was about me, about my life, about my loves. This poem captures something about human fragility and love that I have never seen expressed more eloquently.

b) What is your favorite part of the poem?
I have favorite lines (the last stanza in particular destroys me), but I cannot dissect the poem more than that. It is a perfect whole.

c) How did you first run across this poem?
I don't remember.

Food quirks:

1. I eat my pancakes from the inside out. I make a little hole in the middle first because I firmly believe that there are "pancake crusts", and I hate crusts.

2. I don't like crunchy food. I never eat croutons, crusts, hard taco shells--you name it.

3. When I order a salad, I generally eat everything except the lettuce. I might have a little, but I get salads for the good stuff, not the filler.

4. I actually kind of like that chalky Mylanta taste.

5. Whenever I eat Indian food, I order chicken tikka masala. I just love it. I've tried ordering many other types of food and enjoyed them, but I always find myself wishing I'd ordered my usual.

So a friend's response to one of the five idiosyncrasies memes made me think...

What are the jokes people make about something about you--your name, your physical appearance, your job, your background--that you just really don't find funny, even when they mean well or are just teasing?

For example, for me, the whole "those who can, do, those who can't, teach" joke. Never find it funny. Ever.

Go ahead a cut/paste the question and list your trigger Not!Funny jokes. I'm going to ponder and do the same, because I know there are more...

List 5 idiosycrasies of yours:

1. I operate on Kristin time (i.e. everything always takes 20 minutes longer than I think it will, which means I am consistently 20 minutes late. Mostly, I compensate for this so my friends don't kill me.) This ties into a whole host of idiosyncrasies related to my ADHD. See "Gentlemen Prefer (Medicated?) Blondes".

2. I can't resist chokers of all shapes and varieties.

3. I love that my cat sleeps on my pillow, even though it means I spend part of the night saying "ow!" because he's stepping on my hair.

4. I sing all the time, but I almost never get the lyrics right. That leads to me making up really, really silly songs: i.e. the "Palm Tree Song", the "I Like Soft Serve Ice Cream with Chocolate Sprinkles" song, and the "This Is A Good Song" song, to name a few.

5. I love dragons so much that I had the dragon weathervane in that picture imported from England for the house. I also have a "Warning: Invisible Dragon in Back Seat" bumper sticker currently on my car, and I used to have the one that said, "Do Not Meddle in the Affairs of Dragons, for You are Crunchy and Taste Good With Ketchup".

Oh, and one other...I love the heat because I'm almost always cold. I don't even mind the humidity much.
